Loosely painted representation of a figure on a cross against a grey background. There are two circular motif’s present, a white circle behind the figures head and a black circle to the right of the figures legs.

Sir Robin Philipson RSW RGI RCAA HRHA ARSA RSA ARA RA PRSA (1916 – 1992). Born in Lancashire. Studied and taught at Edinburgh College of Art. Known for his expressionist use of paint. He is particularly renowned for his cockfight paintings, a series begun in the early 1950s. His later work in the 1960s explored more general figurative studies plus church and cathedral interiors and crucifixions. Philipson was well known for his bold use of colour and his liberal use of heavy impasto in his works.
